Business Sector Project: Derby Railway Technical Centre – Architects Sanderson Wetherall

Owned by London Continental Railways, this is a business park that provides office and conferencing space for over thirty independent companies with a circa 1200 staff presence.

The central restaurant had been installed in the early eighties and some archive photos were found that added some great history to the project. JGA Ltd were employed to completely redesign the facility. We proposed an option with that relocated the kitchen adjacent to the external glazing walls to maximise the natural sunlight. This made a significant difference to the working conditions as the original kitchen was completely internal with staff working under artificial light.

Features: JGA Ltd created an airy, spacious back of house kitchen that completely transformed the working environment for the staff. Working alongside the interior designers, a new front of house servery was created to compliment the rustic theme of the dining space with reclaimed timber used for the counter fascias.

Challenges: This was an extensive refurbishment project that entailed the complete strip out of the first-floor area and a completely new services infrastructure.  A service had to be maintained for the duration of the works and JGA Ltd were able to utilise existing space and services to provide a temporary service.
