Education Project: Richmond upon Thames College – Architects WS Atkins

Appointed in May 2016, this was an £80m new build to accommodate 2000 Students. JGA Ltd had a four-year involvement on this project working on feasibility designs during the planning stages right through to the commissioning of the final installation. Designs were developed through close consultation with the client team.

Work is ongoing with the client and project management team assisting with additional areas that have been required.

Features: The new catering facilities consisted of a ground floor Coffee Bar, Refectory Kitchen / Servery and a Training Kitchen. It also included a Restaurant and Bar on the fourth floor with a private dining space to serve the public and functions to provide students with commercial experience. Catering equipment value was £970k pre tender. Odour control is managed via Ultra Violet Filtration.

Challenges: Despite the protracted nature of the project, JGA Ltd were tasked with quickly delivering high volumes of technical design information at each stage. This was a highly complex process that was worked through by close collaboration with the building services engineers. We were also responsible for ensuring the accuracy of contractor services drawings while managing through many late stage changes requested by the client.
